Study warns of smoking dangers

CHARLOTTE -- The Mecklenburg County Health Department released a study on Wednesday that showed air quality is on average 12-times worse in restaurants and bars that allow smoking. Advocates for smoking bans, are trumpeting the finding as a giant success for their cause. Its a slam dunk in my view, said Dr. Michael Sloan of Smoke Free Mecklenburg. The findings come on the heels of Tuesdays unanimous decision by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners to approve a resolution asking the North Carolina General Assembly to give local governments the authority to enact a ban on smoking in public places. .
